Treating Your Intentions For 2023 As a Spiritual Journey
Happy New Year Yogis! Cheers to walking into the New Year your way. With the New Year always comes a time for reflection with big buzz words such as intentions and goals. Maybe this year rather than focusing solely on the practical aspects of your resolutions, treat them as a spiritual journey which can help you connect with your deepest values and desires. Treating your New Year’s resolutions as a spiritual journey can bring a sense of meaning and purpose to your goals. Yoga and self-care can be a huge asset in nourishing and supporting this journey.
Here are a few tips for making your New Year’s resolutions into spiritual adventures:
Set intentions rather than goals
Goals can be specific and measurable, but intentions are more about the overall direction you want to move in. For example, instead of setting a goal to lose a certain amount of weight, you might set the intention to cultivate self-care and a healthy relationship with your body.
Practice self-inquiry
Yoga can help you to become more self-aware and to connect with your innermost values and desires. Take time to reflect on what is most important to you and what changes you would like to make in your life.
Focus on Mindfulness and Self Awareness
This can involve paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and being present in the moment. This can help you stay grounded and focused, and can also provide insight into your deepest values and desires
Be compassionate and kind to yourself
It’s important to remember that progress is rarely a straight line. There will be ups and downs, and it’s important to be gentle with yourself when you encounter setbacks. Yoga can help you cultivate a sense of self-compassion and self-acceptance, which can be helpful in sticking to your resolutions.
Focus on compassion and kindness to others
This can involve being more understanding and accepting of other people and acting with compassion and empathy; especially when their opinion differs from yours. Their way may not be your way, but it doesn’t make it the wrong way. I personally would like to move away from this divisiveness and move on. Let’s get back to loving each other, and appreciating our differences. I promise it will feel much better 😉 And remember, kindness is contagious.
Make time for regular practice
Whether it’s a daily yoga class or a weekly meditation session, make time in your schedule for regular spiritual practice. This can help to anchor your resolutions and provide a sense of support and structure.
Rest
Seriously, just rest.
Overall approaching your New Year’s resolutions as spiritual adventures and incorporating the practice of yoga, you can bring a sense of meaning and purpose to your goals. By focusing on mindfulness, self-awareness, compassion, and kindness, you can connect with your deepest values and desires to create a more positive and fulfilling life.
